In a Gallup poll, 26 percent of people in 82 countries answered “Yes” to the question: “If you had the opportunity, would you like to move permanently to another country?” Among CIS countries, only 12 percent of respondents in Tajikistan and 13 percent in Kazakhstan showed a desire to emigrate. 
Gallup Polls conducted worldwide between 2006 and 2008 revealed that the proportion of willing migrants varied widely across the globe, with the largest majority occurring in Africa.  In the former Soviet space, 34 percent of those polled in Moldova, 28 percent in Azerbaijan, 26 percent in Georgia and 25 percent in Ukraine were willing to move abroad.  In addition, 23 percent in Armenia, one fifth of respondents each in Kyrgyzstan and Belarus and 17 percent in Russia would move if given the opportunity.  In comparison, 30 percent of Iranians polled, 27 percent of Brits and Germans and 20 percent of Israelis are willing to emigrate.  The poll found that those who have relatives and friends abroad are more likely to want to emigrate than those who do not.
