Yushchenko Seeks to Strengthen Economic Ties with Libya

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko announced the necessity of widening the Ukrainian business presence on the Libyan market in a meeting with Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi, reported proUA.com, citing information distributed by the press service of the president.  “The Ukrainian economic presence in Libya should be fixed,” said Yushchenko, explaining that this should be accomplished in the context of concrete economic projects.  During the meetings, discussed also were possibilities of Ukrainian-Libyan cooperation in trade, oil and gas spheres, agriculture, and transportation.  In particular, as reported by the news source, the two leaders spoke about Ukraine’s possible participation in rebuilding Libyan railroads and bridges. “Namely in that sphere, Ukrainian expertise would be very useful,” said Yushchenko.

The Ukrainian leader also stressed the need to widen cooperation in the military-technical arena, in space exploration, and aviation construction.
