Terrorism and Drug Trafficking Addressed in Meetings with Egyptian Officials
In an April 16 meeting, the Minister of the Interior of Kyrgyzstan Moldomusa Kongantiev, the deputy foreign minister of Egypt and the general secretary of the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation for the Commonwealth of Independent States Safi Ibrahim Amin discussed the intersection of terrorism and the narcotics trade, Pr.kg reported on April 17. Egypt is pleased with cooperation efforts with Kyrgyzstan, said Safi Ibrahim Amin, noting that the Fund of Technical Cooperation has trained 350 members of Kyrgyzstan’s Department of the Interior in the sphere of counterterrorism and counter-drug trafficking. She said that while many countries have closed off the channels of bank-financing for terrorism, financing terrorism through the illegal trade of narcotics is on the rise, a trend which affects all countries. She stressed that Egypt is working with other governments on this issue. Echoing his colleague’s sentiments, Kongantiev said that strengthening international cooperation efforts in this sphere is a top priority for Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry.
