Iran Prepared to File Suit Against Turkmenistan

The leader of Iran’s parliamentary commission on energy, Kamal Daneshyar, revealed on January 15 that Tehran is prepared to lodge a judicial suit against Turkmenistan in connection with the termination of delivery of Turkmen gas to the Islamic Republic, reported Vlasti.net.  Daneshyar revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Oil are working on the drafting of a suit in international court against Turkmenistan, but failed to elaborate on the specifics of the suit. The delivery of gas from Turkmenistan to Iran was interrupted on December 29, 2007. According to Turkmen authorities, the termination of gas delivery was caused by technical problems. Iran’s leadership, however, accuses Turkmenistan of suspending delivery to try to receive a higher price for its fuel, the news source reports.
