U.S. to Provide Aid to Armenian Law Enforcement Agencies

On September 24, the General Prosecutor of Armenia Aghvan Hovsepyan and the U.S. Charge d’Affairs in Armenia Rudolph Ferina signed the sixth bilateral U.S.-Armenian agreement on the control and monitoring of narcotics and law enforcement cooperation, informed Yerkir daily.  According to the agreement, as reported by the news source, Armenia will be granted financial aid in the amount of about $170,000, which has been earmarked for two particular projects: construction of a shooting range and creation of an internal computer network for Armenian law enforcement agencies.

Since the signing of the initial cooperation document in 2001, Armenian law enforcement structures have received about $8 million from the United States. Projects that were funded through these resources included the establishment of an independent crime scene investigation center, as well as the creation of computer classrooms for various law enforcement agencies, reported Yerkir.
