BELARUS: Caracas and Minsk to Pursue Military Cooperation

Venezuela and Belarus will be signing military contracts worth over a billion U.S. dollars by early August, announced Victor Sheiman, the secretary of the Belorussian Security Council, who also heads the bilateral economic cooperation committee, reported Mercopress.

According to the news source, Venezuela is interested in automatic systems for air defense ranging from the portable land-air systems to the S300 missiles. The Venezuelan Army had also shown an interest in equipment related to the Kalashnikov assault rifle after having acquired the production licenses, added Mercopress.
As reported by the Chinese Peoples Daily Online, the Belorussian Security Council secretary stated that contracts worth over one billion dollars were drafted and coordinated with the Venezuelan Defense Ministry and approved by the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
