Belorussian Security Services Allege Uncovering a Spy Ring

On July 15, the Federal Security Committee of Belarus (FSC) announced that it had uncovered a clandestine Polish military intelligence network, which included four servicemen of the Belorussian Army and an officer of Russian armed forces, reported Belta.

According to the deputy chairman of the FSC, Victor Vegera, the Polish spy ring was allegedly interested in gathering information about the military-strategic networks of Belarus and Russia, as well as the location and quantity of air-defense systems, and in particular, the S-300 complexes, reported the news source.

Belorussian security services contended that the sensitive documents were photographed, after which the information was converted into digital format and put on flash memory cards. To transfer the gathered secret data to its headquarters, the clandestine network reportedly used specially created caches. To transfer the information across the border, the flash-cards with secret information were usually hidden inside fire extinguishers of the vehicles in which they were transported.

All the arrested suspects have been accused of treason through espionage, Belta reported.
