Going Once, Twice, Sold! Georgian Power Plant Goes to the Highest Bidder

The Georgian Ministry of Economy has auctioned off its oldest hydropower plant, Zahesi, on the outskirts of Tbilisi for $41 million, reported Georgia Times on July 20. The new owner of the power station is the Georgian Bonaser Trading Limited company. The starting price for the bidding was $15 million. Four other companies, including the Czech Energo-Pro, participated in the auction.

In May 2007, Bonaser Trading Limited purchased 74 percent of the state shares of the Chkhor hydro power plant in the Samegrelo region for $1.5 million, as well as the Kinkisha hydro power plant in Adjara for a sum of $305,000.
