Azerbaijan and Georgia Conduct Joint Power System Repairs

The work that will become a part of the possible synchronization of electric power systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey will be carried out only between Azerbaijan and Georgia during the first stage of the project, announced the president of the AzerEnerji joint-stock company, Etibar Pirverdiyev, reported Baku Today electronic news service.
The unification of power systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey will be made possible by the construction of a power line with a capacity of 500 kilowatt hours.   In order for the project to be implemented, some 40 percent of the power lines in Azerbaijan have to be repaired, while Georgia has to repair 90 percent of its electric grid.

The agreement on the construction of the united power line was signed during the meeting of Azerbaijani and Georgian presidents and the Turkish prime minister in Tbilisi on 7 February. The constructed power line will synchronize the work of the three countries’ power grids and will provide access to the European electric power system. The costs of the entire project have yet to be evaluated, reported the information source.
