The opposition Umid party of Azerbaijan, as announced by its chairman Igbal Agazade, sent a note of protest to international organizations and missions, as well as to the Ministry of Interior of the country, complaining “against the unlawful activities” of district interior forces against their party, reported Trend information agency. During a plenary session of the party held on May 6 at one of conference centers in Baku, the forces of the 37th district police invaded the conference room and terminated the session. According to the police, as reported the news source, the organizers of the meeting lacked appropriate documentation and licensing for holding the session. The Umid party is planning to file a complaint against the 37th police district and bring the issue in front of the Milli Mejlis, informed Trend.
The Umid opposition party was created in 1993 and in 2002 was joined by the Party of Citizens’ Unity.
