According to a poll conducted by the Georgian Consulting Group, Azerbaijan and Ukraine top the list of the countries perceived by the Georgians as friendly, reported Regnum information agency, with 12 percent of the respondents casting their votes for them. They were followed by the United States and Estonia (each receiving 10 percent of the votes), Turkey (8%) and Germany (6%). Georgia’s neighbor Armenia received favorable nods from only four percent of the polled, while Poland and Kazakhstan each got three percent and Turkmenistan received two percent of the “votes of confidence” from Georgians.
Fifty six percent of the polled, according to Regnum, characterized Russia as a country “ill-disposed” towards Georgia, while 31 percent said that Georgia does not have any enemies in the world. Among those calling Russia an unfriendly country, 20 percent believed Moscow’s imperial policies were to blame, 18 percent cited President Putin as the reason, while 14 percent said Russia was unable to reconcile with Georgia because of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The poll was conducted at the request of the GHN news agency among 1,123 respondents.
