ARMENIA: Dual Citizens Not to Vote at May Parliamentary Elections

Despite the fact that the Government of Armenia adopted the legal packet on dual citizenship in February, only residents will be participating in the 12 May parliamentary elections, A1Plus information agency reports, citing legal expert Hrair Tovmasyan.
According to the dual citizenship packet, only those dual citizens registered in Armenia will have the right to cast their votes. However, since the Government has yet to adopt the regulations according to which the registration of dual citizens is to be carried out, dual citizens will not participate in the parliamentary elections, because currently we dont have dual citizens as such, A1Plus cites Tovmasyan as saying.
The expert added that from now on, no future nationwide election will have election districts outside the territory of Armenia. Dual citizens residing abroad wishing to participate in the elections will need to do so by casting their votes in Armenia.
According to several estimates, about 9 million Armenians live worldwide, of which less than 3 million reside in Armenia.
