BELARUS: No More Convoys for Kaliningrad Freightage

The State Customs Committee of Belarus revoked its previous decision to accompany all the cargo shipments from Kaliningrad with convoy, reported Lenta on March 8, citing Interfax. The latter was informed at the press office of the Committee that since all the disputed issues on cargo transits between Russia and Belarus had been successfully resolved, the freightage can now transit the territory of the republic without convoys.
The procedure of compulsory convoying of Russian cargo in transit from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia through Belarus was imposed by the Belarusian side in January 2007 in order to intercept, as declared by the authorities, smuggled foreign goods to Belarus arriving in the country as Russian cargo, reported Lenta.
