Azeris Want to See More of Ilham Aliyev

The citizens of Azerbaijan, in their written suggestions sent to the President’s Administration, expressed their desire to increase the presidential term from 5 to 7 years. This, as reported by Day.az, was made public in an article published in the country’s parliamentary periodical Azerbaijan.  According to the news source, the author of the article, Suleyman Ismailov, the head of the department dealing with communication issues with the citizens at the President’s Administration, said that Azeri citizens support President Aliyev’s home and foreign policies and would like to see the extension of his term.

Ilham Aliyev was elected President of Azerbaijan in 2003 after his father Heydar Aliyev removed his candidacy in support of his son. The latter occupied the Vice President’s post then.
