Uzbekistan is planning to spend 132 billion soms ($109 million) in 2006 to repair the country’s decaying road and highway infrastructure, vesti.uz reported on 12 April, citing an unnamed source at the state-owned highway building concern Uzavtoiul. The investment project, which has been approved by the government, will be financed from the Uzbek road fund (92.63 billion soms), regional and local governments (12.26 million soms), and other sources, including foreign investment and grants (27.1 billion soms).
