Russian, Tajik Troops Participate in Joint Military Exercises

Approximately 500 Russian service members stationed at the 201st Military Base in Tajikistan and 300 Tajik troops took part in a three-day joint tactical training session at a site 35 kilometers outside of Dushanbe, vesti.uz reported on 6 April. The training session, the last day of which was attended by Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov, Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloev, and Russian Ambassador Ramazan Abdulatipov, simulated an attack by an international terrorist group on one of the Central Asian countries. “The scenario included the suppression of a group of international terrorists with the use of rocket launchers, infantry and military aviation,” said Pavel Konev, spokesman for the Russian base, said. According to him, more than 100 units of military equipment were used in the exercises, including two SU-25 attack aircrafts, and MI-8 and MI-24 helicopters. (www.vesti.uz, April 6)
