Lawmakers Back State of Emergency in Bird Flu-Hit Crimea

The Ukrainian parliament passed a resolution on 6 December imposing a state of emergency in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in response to the recent bird flu outbreak there. Poultry imports from the autonomy were banned after a deadly strain of the virus was discovered in three Crimean districts. (www.rian.ru, December 6)
