Wide-Ranging Amnesty Declared on Turkmen HolidayIn honor of the Day of the Government Flag of Turkmenistan, celebrated annually on February 19, Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow signed an order pardoning many who had been incarcerated in the country. According to Turkmenistan.ru, the presidential decree commuted the original sentences of 1,269 people, some of whom are not Turkmen citizens, and freed them from the additional punishment of being forced to live in defined, pre-determined areas.
