GEORGIA: Former Lawmaker Found Strangled

Zviad Tsetskhladze, a businessman and former lawmaker, was found dead in his office in downtown Tbilisi on May 28, reported Civil Georgia. Friends and relatives said Tsetskhladze, 61, had been found tied to a chair and had shown signs of strangling.

Tsetskhladze was a member of Parliament from 1999 to 2003 and a member of ex-Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze’s Revival Party. He was not, however, an active political figure even while in Parliament, reported the news source. At one point, Tsetskhladze was a major property owner, with interests in hotels in Adjara, Bakuriani and Tbilisi. Reportedly, the former parliamentarian sold all of his holdings before his death for reasons not specified by the news source.
