BELARUS: Lukashenka: Eldest Son Not a Successor

Aleksander Lukashenka on April 12 announced that he is not preparing his eldest son to succeed him as president of Belarus, reported Belorusskiye Novosti. “In the foreseeable future, the President of Belarus will be Aleksander Lukashenka,” said the head of state. According to the news source, Lukashenka added that Viktor, his eldest son, is currently weaker than him and “will be even weaker tomorrow.” He added, “Why prepare someone who is weak?  In fact, I will prepare my youngest son as my successor.”
