Yuri Manukyan announced at a press conference on 26 May that his Unified Communist Party of Armenia (HMKK) will run in the nation’s upcoming parliamentarian elections, newsarmenia.ru reported the same day. The party’s motivation for participating in the elections, he said, was his party’s “desire to improve Armenians’ living conditions.” At the conference, Manukyan also conceded that his party had made several mistakes in the past. “Over the last 70 years of the Communist Party’s existence, we should have concerned ourselves with the country’s private sector, and should have not destroyed Christian houses of worship or spent time convincing people that socialism is the best form of government,” he said.
