GEORGIA: Saakashvili: Relations with Russia “Web of Misunderstandings”

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili told journalists on 22 May during a Georgian wine exhibition in Kyiv that relations with his neighbor to the north reflected a “massive web of misunderstandings,” unian.net reported the same day. Speaking about the situation that has developed between the two countries, he said: “There are apparently certain inexplicable processes at work.” Separately, he noted that the CIS is experiencing difficulties, adding that the rights the organization should protect are lacking. “The freedom to move, the freedom to trade, the freedom to communicate with people at all levels, unfortunately, this is gone,” Saakashvili said. Speaking of the group’s problems, he said: “We must either resolve them together, or each individually make our own decisions.” (www.korrespondent.net, May 22)
