Russia, India in Talks over Sharing Tajik Airfield

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on 5 December that his country and India could share the Aini airfield in Tajikistan, webindia123.com and other media reported. ''Russia is interested in using the reconstructed airfield to deploy its helicopters and a squadron of [Russia’s] air force stationed in Tajikistan,'' Ivanov, who held discussions with visiting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said. ''I do not rule out the possibility of jointly using the Aini military airfield,'' he said, adding that Russia and Tajikistan were currently negotiating on the issue.
